Requirements, Application and Documents Required to Apply for a Spouse Visa

The Spouse Visa is a type of family visa that British citizens and settled individuals who have a spouse who lives outside of the UK can use to bring them to the UK. If you want to apply for UK fiance visa, also known as a Marriage Visa, is required if you want to enter the UK and live with a partner (spouse or fiance) for more than six months.

What is required for the applicant?


The UK Immigration Authorities have established certain requirements that must be met by both the applicant for the UK Spouse visa and the UK resident who wishes to join them in the UK. The primary requirement for the Spouse visa is that both the applicant and the resident must be over 18 years old, as British law prohibits marriages between people under 18.


The remaining eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • A British citizen must be invited to join.

  • It is necessary to acknowledge your civil partnership or marriage.

  • In order to avoid organized relationships, your relationship should be at least two years old when you apply.

  • If you are a fiance, you must demonstrate that you will wed within six months.

  • You should provide evidence that you will join a common association within a year if you are a proposed organization.

  • The money must be available to the UK-based partner.

  • The candidate should be able to communicate in English.

When you are planning to apply for UK fiance visa, a checklist of documents includes your previous identifications :

  • The UK requires two color photographs in the size of a passport

  • requirement for proficiency in English

  • For instance, photos of you two together are evidence of your relationship

  • Your complete name and birth date

  • Certificate of criminal record

  • The date of your birth and your parents' nationality if you are from outside the UK

  • biometrics information. At the appropriate application location, you will need to provide your fingerprints and have a computerized picture taken

  • Evidence that expenses for the spouse visa were paid for. You are required to submit a receipt proving that you have paid the visa fee
